Brazil’s former manager Tite robbed in Rio after World Cup failure

Brazil’s World Cup coach was allegedly mugged in Rio while out for a walk at 6am this morning.

Tite had been in charge of the Brazilian national team since 2016, even leading them to Copa América glory three years ago, but resigned after their World Cup quarterfinal elimination by Croatia.

According to Brazilian outlet Globo (via Daily Mail), the 61-year-old man allegedly had a chain stolen, after which the thief criticized him for Brazil’s elimination from the World Cup.

He had just returned to his hometown after leading the National Team to the World Cup quarterfinals in Qatar, which they surprisingly lost to Croatia.

Shortly after retiring he spoke to the media saying:

‘The cycle ended and I said it a year and a half ago and I keep my word. We can’t make a drama. There are other great professionals who can replace me. The cycle is over.

His record with the Brazilian national team has been quite impressive. Of the 81 matches he coached, he won 60 and his team scored 174 goals, playing great fluid football.
