The World Cup is over. While it was a joy to watch the nations compete, there is something comforting about the return of club play. Now, Premier League action returns with midweek matches to mark Boxing Day.
The party is a tradition for the league. The 20 teams compete the day or days after Christmas. This year, that brings 10 games in a span of three days. Also, there are some gems among those games.
Brentford and Tottenham welcome the league after the World Cup. That London clash begins at 7:30 am ET. Then other games on Monday include Crystal Palace welcoming Fulham to another team of London foes. Finally, Arsenal take on West Ham in a third match involving London opponents on the day.
In total, there are seven games on Boxing Day. Then there are two games on Tuesday and a single game on Wednesday. That Wednesday game is particularly interesting.
Leeds United, who beat Liverpool and Chelsea this season with narrow losses to Spurs and Arsenal, take on Manchester City. Pep Guardiola’s side stumbled in the international break with a 2-1 defeat at home to Brentford. However, Erling Haaland did not compete in the World Cup. Therefore, he is well rested and with energy to score whenever he wants in the league.
