Mikel Arteta claims Arsenal could sign a replacement for Gabriel Jesus in January

Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus has been sidelined with an injury sustained during the World Cup.

With the Gunners set to return to action after the main event, the absence of Jesus will be a huge blow to Mikel Arteta’s team.

Arsenal are currently at the top of the Premier League table and are hoping to go all the way and win the title. It will be interesting to see how they deal with the loss of Jesus in the coming weeks.

The former Manchester City striker has been a huge success since joining the club. Aside from his goalscoring ability, Jesús’s ability to create chances for his teammates and bring others into the game has been vital to Arsenal’s performances.

The 25-year-old striker has five goals and seven assists to his name in all competitions this season.

Manager Mikel Arteta has now revealed that Jesus’ injury is a huge blow and it will be impossible to replace his contribution because he is a unique player.

Arteta has hinted (as quoted by the Mirror) that Arsenal could use the January transfer window to bring in alternatives. Whether the North London giants can bring a quality alternative to the Brazil international remains to be seen.

“It’s a big blow for us, obviously. He is such an important player: he has brought something very different to the team and it is impossible to replace him.

“But we have other players, other alternatives and we will try to fix that. The transfer window is another option.

“I think [Jesus] he is a unique player but eddie [Nketiah] He also has incredible qualities for the way we want to play.”

The last thing the Gunners would want is for their title challenge to go off the rails due to injury.

They will need to sign someone who is more than just a goalscorer and can unite the attack.
