Messi will stay at PSG for one more year, says report

Lionel Messi will sign a new contract at the French club PSG for one more year. Currently, Messi’s contract with the Parisians expires at the end of the 2022/23 campaign. Furthermore, Inter Miami seemed to be the prime candidate to acquire the World Cup-winning Argentine captain.

However, that plan appears to be on hold. The French newspaper Le Parisien, which operates from Paris, Messi’s team agreed to stay at the Parc des Princes for one more season. According to Le Parisien, Lionel Messi’s agent, his father Jorge, met with PSG officials during the World Cup about the possibilities of staying at the club.

Nothing is official so far. The Argentine continues to celebrate his World Cup triumph and has a well-deserved vacation. However, upon returning to Paris, Messi will close the deal to extend his stay in France.

There, he links up with his old friend Neymar and Kylian Mbappé. Of course, the last time Messi faced Mbappé was in that World Cup final when the two combined for five goals and each scored a penalty kick in the shootout. This season, those three forwards have combined for 30 goals and 21 assists in 14 games played. PSG sits at the top of Ligue Un as one of two unbeaten teams in home play left in Europe’s top five leagues. Napoli in Serie A is the other.

Messi plans to stay at PSG for another year

The revelation that Messi is staying at PSG for one more year surprises MLS. For a while, it looked like Major League Soccer and Inter Miami were going to win the World Cup Player of the Tournament. More than that, MLS wanted possibly the greatest player of all time.

However, Le Parisien argues that Messi’s performance at the World Cup showed that he can still take teams to new heights. This was Argentina’s first world title since 1986. PSG hope they can help the French team to their first Champions League title.
