Guardiola responds to the joint statement from Liverpool and Man City

Liverpool and Manchester City issued a joint statement to fans attending the Carabao Cup match between the clubs and Pep Guardiola responded to the comments asking fans to behave during the match.

Speaking to the media ahead of the cup tie, the 51-year-old said: “Be a supporter, support your team wholeheartedly in good times and bad. Are [supporters] in this country they are the best example. Enjoy the good games with the number of amazing quality players on both sides. It’s always been easier if it was like that.”

The Spaniard certainly didn’t delve too deeply into the reasoning behind this statement with previous matches between the clubs involving abhorrent chanting and hooliganism, but he did focus on how he expects supporters to act.

Let’s hope both sets of fans can leave the stadium knowing that they have done nothing to incite a new statement from either club and can support their own team to the best of their ability.
