Former Marseille defender Basile Boli has revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo held talks with the Ligue 1 club about a transfer last summer.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been linked with a move away from Manchester United in the summer 2022 transfer window. The 37-year-old was linked with several clubs but the move never materialized.

He eventually ended up staying with the Old Trafford team, where his stay was recently cut short after Manchester United terminated his contract by mutual consent. The Red Devils have parted ways with the Portuguese superstar following his explosive interview with Piers Morgan.

Ronaldo criticized Manchester United, the Glazer family and manager Erik ten Hag, among many others, in the interview with Piers Morgan. Manchester United then decided to terminate Ronaldo’s contract by mutual agreement.

Basile Boli believes that Cristiano Ronaldo should have come to Marseille last summer. He believes that Ronaldo still has something to give in Ligue 1.

Cristiano Ronaldo is currently a free agent after parting ways with Manchester United. He has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr, who have reportedly made a staggering contract offer to the Portuguese superstar. However, Al-Nassr recently downplayed such suggestions.

Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo suffered a disappointing campaign in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. His hopes of winning the World Cup title in Qatar 2022 ended when Morocco knocked Portugal out of the competition in the quarter-finals.

Ronaldo featured in all five of Portugal’s games at Qatar 2022, but only started three. He scored a goal for Portugal in the last edition of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, converting a penalty in their 3-2 win over Ghana.

Portugal coach Fernando Santos left Ronaldo on the bench for his round of 16 and quarter-final matches, but came off the bench as a substitute in those matches.
