Lionel Messi’s first post on Instagram after the Argentine soccer team won the 2022 FIFA World Cup title became the most liked post in Instagram history.

The Argentina soccer team became the champion of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar 2022, defeating France in the final. The match was decided on penalties after the two teams remained level at the end of regulation time and extra time. On penalty, Argentina beat France 4-2 to clinch the FIFA World Cup for the third time in their country’s history.

It was Lionel Messi’s first FIFA World Cup title. The coveted trophy had eluded him until then in his trophy-filled career, but the 35-year-old finally lifted the trophy at Qatar 2022.

After Argentina won the FIFA World Cup title, Lionel Messi posted a series of photos on Instagram with an emotional caption. He has garnered over 58 million likes as of this writing and has become the most liked post in Instagram history.

The record for the most liked post on Instagram was previously held by an image of an egg. That image garnered more than 56 million likes. But, Lionel Messi’s post after winning the FIFA World Cup title has 2 million more likes than the egg image at the time of writing.

Meanwhile, Lionel Messi also recently surpassed 400 million followers on Instagram. At the time of writing, the number of followers of his on his Instagram is 403 million.

However, Lionel Messi is not the most followed person on Instagram. The holder of that record is Cristiano Ronaldo, who has a staggering 520 million followers on the platform.
