SofaScore has published its Team of the Tournament for the 2022 FIFA World Cup and has listed three Manchester United players, with Bruno Fernandes as the highest rated player in the competition.
SofaScore collects data on a number of metrics to assess player performance in a multitude of competitions and can provide a match rating out of ten based on their match statistics.
The Team of the Tournament features players who achieved the highest average ratings during the World Cup in Qatar.
Bruno Fernandes featured in four games, never scoring less than 8.1 out of ten and averaging 8.38, with his match-winning brace against Uruguay a particular highlight.
His performance throughout the tournament is even higher than that of World Cup winner Lionel Messi, although he was at odds with the Argentine posting an 8.27 rating.
Casemiro and Harry Maguire were also part of the squad, impressing for Brazil and England respectively.
The former was even described as ‘the best midfielder in the world’ by teammate Neymar, a nickname few could dispute after his display against Switzerland.
Maguire appeared to enjoy some time away from Old Trafford and earned a series of applause as he was much maligned in the build-up to the tournament. Daley Blind was the only former United player to make the squad, although a couple of potential signings were included.
Cody Gakpo, who scored the first goal in each of the Netherlands’ group stage matches, surprises no one with his inclusion as he showcased his attacking quality to the excitement of the Man United fans.
Gakpo came close to joining the Red Devils in the summer and while a move never materialized at the time, he has been heavily linked with a January move to Old Trafford.
Josip Juranovic, described by pundit Alex Scott as Croatia’s best player, was ever-present for his country and worked hard to earn their acclaim, though many will wonder how Achraf Hakimi failed to rise to the level after his sensational performances for Morocco.
Croatia had one of the most miserable defenses in the competition and Juranovic’s excellence at right-back was a huge contribution, which could convince Celtic to raise their asking price as United look to provide Diogo Dalot with genuine competition.
Dominik Livakoivic, reportedly offered to United last summer, was the most senior goalkeeper.
The remaining three places went to the Frenchman, with Ibrahima Konate, Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappe making up the rest of the eleven. The latter two in particular were sensational in Les Bleus’ run to the runners-up podium.

With the return of the domestic season, United fans are hoping that Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro and Harry Maguire continue to be in fine form as they return to Old Trafford.
