Ben Doak was compared to Rooney during his Celtic youth days

Liverpool fans can be pretty polarized when it comes to Ben Doak and Wayne Rooney, but they won’t be too upset to hear the 17-year-old has been compared to the former Everton man either.

As written by Martin Watt for BBC Scotland: “The story goes that the players [at Celtic] he soon adorned him with a nickname: ‘Wazza’, a nod to the burly teenager’s similarities in stature, talent and fearless style to a young Wayne Rooney’.

Now operating more as a winger, the Scottish teenager looks set to make his mark in Jurgen Klopp’s first team in the coming years and being compared to a talent like the Scouse striker would suggest he’s been looking to do just that for a while.

Having joined the club from Celtic, the youngster had no connection to Merseyside before moving away from home, so the fact that he now resides in the city of the man he was so often compared to is somewhat ironic. .

Despite the 37-year-old playing for two of our biggest rivals, it’s hard not to appreciate the fact that he’s top scorer for both Manchester United and England, so we should hope our star can achieve the same.

Having more playing time with Jurgen Klopp while in Dubai could well give the Scotland under-21 international the chance to feature in Carabao and FA Cup games this campaign, possibly even starting with our trip to face Manchester City.

For now, we’ll sit back and hope our player can achieve the feats of a man not praised by many at Anfield.
