Ethan Laird impresses for Queens Park Rangers, prompting recall possibility – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United loan star Ethan Laird has been impressing for Queens Park Rangers amid reports that Erik ten Hag is considering calling him up.

Laird has been mooted for a possible return to Old Trafford in January, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka leaving and Diogo Dalot with no competition for his job.

But new QPR boss Neil Critchley is keen to keep the player at the club until the end of the season.

“On any 12-month loan, there is a natural break around the middle of the season that applies to all players, but Ethan has had a fantastic season here, playing every week,” Critchley said.

“I am sure Manchester United will be happy with Ethan and the way he has been playing and his development. My goal is to continue with that.

“I see myself as someone who can train the players to improve on the team, they are playing.

“Ethan is someone I’ve been aware of for many years at United, and I tried to sign him previously at Blackpool, which didn’t happen, so I’m glad he’s here and hopefully he will be for the rest of the season. ”

The academy graduate has started all 19 of QPR’s Championship games since signing for the London side, helping them to five clean sheets and providing a dynamic attacking threat.

With two assists and a goal, he has shown that he is capable of good productivity; however, his speed and dribbling ability have really come to the fore as he has been the main provider of width on Critchley’s right-hand side.

His attacking influence was shown against Preston, where he made two key passes and picked up an incredible six fouls.

It was also a solid defensive display from Laird, who won nine games, made two clearances and two interceptions en route to QPR’s much-needed clean sheet.

With United reflecting on their option to call up the right-back, it’s clear the player is enjoying his loan and could possibly benefit from seeing him until the end of the season.

But with United lacking in options, it’s entirely possible that Erik ten Hag wants to oversee his development in the Man United first team.

After all, Dalot can’t play every game.
