Former Serie A star Youri Djorkaeff has criticized Italian clubs for showing a lack of faith in young players, suggesting that this is the reason Italy failed to qualify for this World Cup.
The Italians have missed back-to-back World Cups despite owning one of the best leagues in the world and winning Euro 2020 at Wembley.
It’s a remarkably sad reality and Djorkaeff suggests they might be in a different position if they were particular about grooming young talent like Spain and other countries.
He said via Calciomercato:
“There was talk of imitating France when it was still at Inter and you never did it. Spain cultivates young people, the Netherlands invests in young people, Italy never, never. It is not normal that the blues is not here”.
Juve FC says
Max Allegri has previously been regarded as a manager who doesn’t like to use young players, and the Bianconeri manager has had to prove him wrong.
He has already made players like Fabio Miretti, Nicolo Fagioli and Samuel Iling-Junior debut, although the latter is not Italian.
If other clubs follow suit and start to trust their young Italian talent, the national team will get an endless supply of soccer talent.
