Man United ‘more likely’ to sign Cody Gakpo instead of World Cup breakthrough talent

Although they admire both players, according to journalist Dean Jones, Man United are ‘more likely’ to sign Cody Gakpo from PSV than Goncalo Ramos from Benfica.

Gakpo, 23, has been on the Red Devils’ radar for quite some time. The Dutch international has enjoyed an impressive run that has made him the most prolific goalscorer in the Eredivise.

Already familiar with manager Erik Ten Hag, the Dutch striker, who has directly contributed to 105 goals in 159 club appearances, has been continually linked with a move to United.

However, after confirming a big deal to sign Brazil international Antony in the summer, United’s search for Gakpo seemed to take a backseat – that was until recently anyway.

Seemingly rekindling their interest in the PSV striker, United, who are looking for a new hit man after opting out of Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract last month, could finally get their man.

However, Gakpo is not the only attacking target on the list of 20-time league winners.

Benfica’s Goncalo Ramos, who captured headlines around the world after he replaced Ronaldo in Portugal’s line-up against Switzerland and scored a hat-trick on his World Cup debut, is another player attracting interest. . However, according to Jones, it is Gakpo who seems most likely to move to Old Trafford.

In terms of comparing [Gakpo] someone like Goncalo Ramos, I’m not sure we can compare them directly as transfer options. I think they bring slightly different things to the table,” Jones told GiveMeSport.

“I would say Gakpo is more likely to sign the two as they are now with the extensive scouting they’ve done on him and the type of player he is.”
