David de Gea praises Mary Earps after succesful season so far – Man United News And Transfer News

In a podcast with the club, David De Gea has spoken about his support for Manchester United Women and in particular goalkeeper Mary Earps.

It is well known that the pair have a great deal of respect for each other and before their game at Old Trafford last season, Earps sat down with De Gea and discussed the ‘goalkeepers’ union’.

In his last chat with the club, De Gea said: “We talk after the games, we say congratulations to him and I think he is doing very well.”

He continued: “She is keeping a lot of clean sheets. We talk about clean sheets all the time; she’s doing great.”

The Spanish goalkeeper says he watches the women’s team as much as he can.

“She won the European Championship with England [and] she is playing very, very well. I’m trying to see as much as I can, the women’s team, I think they’re doing really well this season.”

In addition to Earps, De Gea had high praise for former Reds goalkeeper Siobhan Chamberlain, whom he also met on a couple of occasions.

“She’s very nice, I met her when I was in Manchester too.”

He continued, “[She’s] a top goalkeeper and now she’s on TV. She’s great. She was very good as a gatekeeper and she is very, very nice.”

De Gea also spoke about life at United under Ten Hag.

He recently returned to Manchester with the team after their winter training camp in his home country of Spain, where he featured in both friendlies.

Meanwhile, the United women have only one game left before the winter break, a Conti Cup clash against Sheffield United. Earps is expected to be on the bench while Sophie Baggaley starts on Sunday.

In the league, United are in third place heading into Christmas, two points behind Arsenal and five points behind league leaders Chelsea, with one game remaining at the top of the table.
