Arsenal star stabbed in attack takes huge step towards returning to football

Arsenal defender Pablo Mari was the victim of an attack in a Milan supermarket two months ago where he received a stab wound in the back.

The Spaniard was taken to hospital for treatment of his injuries after being one of six people who were stabbed to death in the Italian capital’s shopping center in October, the Daily Mail reports.

One person was killed in the attack, and Mari told him she was “lucky” to avoid life-threatening injuries while undergoing surgery.

However, the defender has taken a big step towards returning to football by returning to training this week at Monza, where he spends the season on loan from Arsenal.

Mari joined Monza on a season-long loan from Arsenal in August and had played eight times before the attack, scoring once.

The centre-back joined Flamengo’s Gunners in 2020 but has so far failed to secure a fixed place in Mikel Arteta’s squad. His Arsenal teammates, as well as those at Monza, will be happy to see him return after what must have been a terrifying time in his life.
