Karim Benzema could make a stunning return to France’s FIFA World Cup squad. The Blues have qualified for the FIFA World Cup finals after defeating Morocco 2-0 in a semi-final tie at Al Bayt Stadium on Thursday.
Theo Hernández gave France an early lead during the 5th minute of the game before Randal Kolo Mauni doubled the Blues’ lead just 11 minutes before the final whistle. Morocco struggled to get back in the game, but France’s defensive unit held its ground and sent the European nation to its second successive FIFA World Cup final.
They will now face Argentina in the tournament final at Lusail Stadium on December 18. The game will feature some of the best players in the world, including Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe.
Will Karim Benzema return to the France team?
Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema could return to the France squad for the final despite not making a single appearance in the tournament. Benzema missed the 2022 FIFA World Cup after suffering a knee injury while training on the eve of the tournament.

However, Spanish publication Marca (via The Indian Express) reported that Benzema has recovered from injury and is training with Real Madrid without any physical problems since last week. He could make a surprising return to the France team if Didier Deschamps needs his services.
Real Madrid will not stand in the way if they want to join the French camp. This could be Benzema’s last chance to play in the FIFA World Cup as he turns 35 later this month.
Benzema has scored 37 goals in 97 appearances for France since making his debut in 2007. He announced his retirement from international football in 2014 but returned to the national setup in 2020. Karim Benzema shone for the Blues during UEFA Euro 2020, scoring four goals in four appearances.
Benzema’s future at Real Madrid is also uncertain
The French international is in the final year of his current contract at the Estadio Bernabéu. Real Madrid is interested in extending his stay, but talks about a new agreement have not advanced in recent weeks.
He could leave the club in a deal with Bosman next summer. Manchester United is among the clubs that have shown interest in signing him.
