Erik ten Hag compares Rashford to Mbappe, confirms player’s stay

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag praised Marcus Rashford during a recent interview. The Dutch coach assured that his English striker is one of the best in the world and even compared him to Kylian Mbappé. Ten Hag made the comments during conversations with the club’s official website.

“Right from the get-go, I recognized a lot of potential,” ten Hag said. “And now, to bring out the potential, I think when Marcus’s positioning is at the back of the defense line, there’s almost no better player in the world.”

“There are [Kylian] Mbappé right now, a guy like him, but when [Marcus] He is putting himself in that position, he is great and you see that he has improved a lot also out of possession”.

Erik ten Hag happy with Rashford’s recovery year

Rashford is in the midst of quite a successful campaign with the Red Devils and England. After a lackluster 2021/22 season, the striker already has eight goals and three assists for United so far. He, too, added three goals in just five games at the World Cup.

Furthermore, ten Hag essentially confirmed that Marcus Rashford will not be leaving the club this summer. The 25-year-old striker’s current base contract runs out in June, but United have a one-year option to extend the deal. Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser al-Khelaifi recently stated that he was interested in bringing Rashford to France.

Manager Claims Club Option May Be Available Now

“[Marcus] He has to make a decision”, explained the coach. “The only thing we can do is show him that this is the best club to be at, that it has to do with the culture of the club and also in the way we are working, in the way we play and in the way we train and if we are offering the right environment for progress”.

“It is also a financial problem. Then it’s up to him to make the decision. But for a year and a half, he will be here.”
