Five clubs including Manchester United in the race to sign Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid – Man United News And Transfer News

Five clubs are on the hunt for the Portuguese Joao Félix, who is planning his departure from Atlético de Madrid.

As reported by sport.es, Arsenal have now joined the race to get the striker out of LaLiga.

The Premier League club looks like the most likely destination for the 23-year-old, with three other English clubs seeking his signature.

Manchester United, Chelsea and Aston Villa are also in the running along with Paris Saint-Germain, and all of them are ready to fight for the young star, who impressed at the World Cup in Portugal.

Félix has struggled to break into Diogo Simeone’s Atlético Madrid this season and has never fully earned the trust of the pragmatic Argentine coach.

Bought by Atlético for a whopping £113m from Benfica, it was thought Simeone would find a place for the flamboyant striker in his well-trained squad.

It hasn’t quite worked out that way with Simeone going back to the guy and predominantly sticking to his battering-type forwards, leaving Felix with no playing time.

However, when called upon, the Portuguese star has shown glimpses of his obvious talent.

United, in particular, have first-hand experience of the striker’s ability. Felix was instrumental in knocking the Red Devils out of the Champions League last season.

A bullet header in the first leg in Spain gave Atlético the lead for the night, a lead United responded to by taking the tie to Old Trafford.

The second leg saw Atleti pick up another 1-0 win, in typical Simeone fashion with Félix the standout performer of the night.

His close control, change of pace and ability to take on defenders proved too much for United as they crashed out of the competition at the round of 16 stage.

The striker has all the attributes to fit into Erik ten Hag’s system, a fluid attacker who can operate on the front line.

With Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure confirmed, United are publicly in the market for a replacement and Felix represents the perfect choice. It is believed that Atleti will demand a fee similar to what he paid for the player, in a bid to recoup the hefty initial outlay from him.
