Liverpool suffers major Luis Diaz injury setback

Liverpool expect winger Luis Diaz to remain sidelined until March. Luiz Dias has established himself among the key players in the Reds’ squad since he joined FC Porto in the January 2022 transfer window.

He has played 38 games (in all competitions) for Liverpool so far, registering 10 goals and eight assists. Díaz helped the Reds win an FA Cup, an EFL Cup and an FA Community Shield.

Liverpool winger Luis Díaz suffers a major setback

Reds winger Luis Diaz’s spell on the sidelines has been extended after he picked up another knee injury during mid-season training camp in Dubai.

Luis Díaz hasn’t played a single minute since picking up a knee injury while playing against Arsenal on October 9. He was scheduled to play during the Reds’ friendly games in Dubai, but this latest setback has extended his stay apart from him.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp described Luis Diaz’s injury during a press conference in Dubai. He said: “It is clear that it is a big disappointment for all of us, for him too. Honestly, it wasn’t a situation in training, nothing, I felt something.”

“He didn’t feel much the next day, but we wanted to be very cautious and said, ‘Okay, come on, let’s take a look.’ Yeah, then the news came and it was a real punch in the face. But that’s all now.”

Liverpool have struggled to get going this season so far. The Reds have managed to win just six of their first 14 games this season. They currently sit sixth in the Premier League table, 15 points behind leaders Arsenal.

Jurgen Klopp will be looking to turn things around when the league season restarts on December 26. However, Luis Díaz’s injury has left the German coach with no options up front, with Diogo Jota also recovering from a thigh injury.

Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Darwin Núñez are the only senior attackers fit for Jurgen Klopp’s helm. He could also use Harvey Elliot, Fabio Carvalho and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in attack if necessary.
