World Cup winner knows why Kane missed crucial penalty against France

Germany legend Jurgen Klinsmann thinks he knows why Harry Kane missed his crucial penalty during England’s World Cup loss to France on Saturday.

The former Tottenham striker has stated that Kane missed his second penalty of the match, which would have tied the game 2-2, as a result of overthinking.

The World Cup winner said via 90min: “You spend too much time with VAR checking. It works in your brain.

“I am a huge fan of Harry Kane. If I had the opportunity to leave the ball and take it immediately [he would have scored]. But time goes by and you think too much.

Kane is an excellent penalty taker and he showed it when he scored England’s first goal to make it 1-1 in the quarter-final match.

However, there were many factors at play why his second missed, but the biggest was Hugo Lloris in the French net.

Taking a penalty in the World Cup quarter-final is enough pressure, but when it’s the second of the game against a man who sees him hidden from the spot in training with Tottenham often, that could have played into the theory of think too much of Klinsmann.
