World heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has confirmed that former footballer Wayne Rooney will join his training camp for his upcoming fight with Oleksandr Usyk.
Fury just picked up another win over Derek Chisora at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium earlier this month. That victory has now set up an undisputed heavyweight clash with Usyk, the holder of three of the four belts in the division.
The Ukrainian fighter stepped into the ring after Fury’s last fight to show that they will fight next and while a date for the fight has yet to be confirmed, the Englishman has now claimed that former Manchester United star Wayne Rooney will will join your camp. when the preparations begin, that he was also sitting ringside for the Chisora fight.
Fury previously joked during a radio appearance that he and Rooney should train, given that he needs to take on smaller opponents in preparation for taking on Usyk. Speaking to ITV Granada, the boxer said: “I spoke to Wayne [Rooney] last night and he is well prepared for it. But he’s right-handed, so he has to change to be left-handed.
“So we’re going to bring Wayne in to get ready for Usyk.”
When asked if it was a joke, Fury replied: “No, very, very serious. He agrees, so he will come to the camp for about four weeks to help me.
And he added: “I’m a big fan of yours.”
