Graham Potter gives update on Armando Broja’s horror injury

Chelsea’s Armando Broja suffered a horrific injury during the club’s friendly against Aston Villa on Sunday.

Although the Blues lost 1-0, the result will be the least of Graham Potter’s worries. Broja suffered a nasty looking injury early in the first half of the game.

Letting out a piercing scream that could be heard from a distance, it was obvious the Albanian striker was in deep trouble, and Potter has since backed up those fears.

Providing an update on the 21-year-old’s alleged broken knee, Potter, quoted by Adam Newson, said: “It was an unfortunate action, I think he got caught up with his player and the ground.

“It doesn’t look positive at the moment, but it’s too early to tell. Fingers crossed, but it’s awkward.”

Chelsea hope that Broja will not be ruled out for the rest of the season.

Having allowed Romelu Lukaku to rejoin Inter Milan, Potter, if he can’t count on Broja, will be forced to rely on Kai Havertz as his team’s only truly recognized striker.

Set to enter an important period of the season and following Broja’s serious injury, it would not be unrealistic to expect the Blues to resort to the January transfer window in search of a new striker.
