Boost for Juventus as Guerreiro opts against renewing BVB contract

By the end of the season, most observers expect Alex Sandro to leave Juventus following the expiration of his contract, leaving a vacant place in the team.

Although the Bianconeri have young players like Andrea Cambiaso and Luca Pellegrini on the books, the club will likely turn to the market, replacing the veteran Brazilian with an experienced left-back.

In recent months, the Italians have been linked with a host of potential candidates for the job, including Raphael Guerreiro.

The Portuguese has been acting as an integral member of the Borussia Dortmund squad since moving to Germany in 2017.

But according to Ruhr News via Calciomercato, the 28-year-old has decided to terminate his contract with the Bundesliga side before leaving as a free agent next summer.

If true, this news should be a huge boost for Juventus, who are desperate for the services of a capable new left-back. However, the source points out that Leeds United are also in contention for the fullback.

Guerreiro mainly acts as a left back, but can also serve higher up the field. He also occasionally plays as a midfielder.

This season, the former Lorient player has contributed a goal and two assists in his 12 Bundesliga appearances. He also has two goals to his name in the Champions League.

He was part of the Portuguese team that was eliminated at the hands of Morocco in the World Cup quarterfinals last Saturday.

In his four outings in Qatar 2022, Guerreiro scored one goal and provided two assists for his teammates.
