Tite resigns from Brazil after shock World Cup exit

Tite, who has coached Brazil for six years since 2016, stepped down after the Seleção lost to Croatia in the World Cup quarterfinals.

Brazil only lost on penalties to the 2018 runner-up on penalties. In fact, Tite’s team took the lead with five minutes to go in extra time. However, this marks Brazil’s second quarterfinal exit from the World Cup under Tite’s leadership. In 2018, Brazil lost to a strong team from Belgium who would finish third.

The highlight under Tite’s guise was winning the 2019 Copa América. The most memorable events, however, are the quarterfinal losses to a pair of European teams. Of course, the fights against the European opposition for Brazil go back to before Tite. The defeat against Croatia represents the fifth consecutive defeat against a European rival in the round of 16 of the World Cup.

Following his resignation, Tite said that he wanted to have a full World Cup cycle with Brazil. “It’s very difficult,” Tite told reporters after the game.

“The cycle ended and I said it a year and a half ago. I needed to have the complete cycle and now I have the complete cycle and I have followed the moments ”.

Tite leaves Brazil after the World Cup defeat on penalties against Croatia

Brazil was strong in most of the games with Tite. The canary yellow outfit was not only the clear favorite to win the competition, but also racked up 61 wins from 81 managers under Tite’s guidance.

In qualifying for the World Cup, for example, Brazil won 14 of 17 games. He tied the other three games for an unbeaten record in a tough ranking spot.

Tite mentioned that he would step down after this tournament no matter what happens with Brazil. However, Neymar and his teammates wanted to give Tite more games in charge.
