Opinion: Who would be Juve’s ideal January signing for right-back role? –

Despite the club’s current legal and financial crisis, it appears Juventus remain adamant about bolstering their full-back department with a new signing who may offer Max Allegri an alternative option on the right-hand side.

During the first part of the campaign, the coach had to depend heavily on the Colombian due to the lack of alternatives. Mattia De Sciglio hasn’t been around for a while, and even when he’s fully fit, he’s not the most exciting option.

Therefore, the news has been linking the bianconeri with a plethora of potential signings. So let’s take a look at the most viable candidates before choosing the most appropriate one for the club.

Bartosz Bereszynski (Sampdoria)

We start with an experienced fullback who has vast Serie A experience under his belt. The Polish international has been plying his trade at Sampdoria since 2017.

The 30-year-old recently joined the ever-growing list of candidates, as we reported last week.

Andrea Cambiaso (Bologna)

The internal solution.

The Italian youngster completed a move from Genoa to Juventus in the summer before quickly joining Bologna on a temporary basis.

Some believe the Bianconeri could recall the versatile winger in January to increase his number on the wings.

Rick Karsdorp (Rome)

The Dutch rebel has been on a collision course with José Mourinho recently, which should prompt his departure from the Italian capital.

Roma are reportedly asking for €10m to part ways with the 27-year-old.

Joakim Maehle (Atalanta)

With 25 years, the Dane would cost more (15 million) than Karsdorp. In addition, Atalanta does not seem very willing to deprive themselves of the services of a player who continues to be key in Gian Piero Gasperini’s team.

Thomas Meunier (Dortmund)

The 31-year-old has experience across Europe having represented the likes of PSG, Borussia Dortmund and the Belgian national team.

She may not be in her best shape right now, but she’s not short of suitors nonetheless.

Verdict

Meunier might be the biggest name on the list, but Juventus would be better off finding a younger player to rotate with the older Cuadrado. The same goes for Bereszynski, who is far from the most exciting option.

On the other hand, Cambiaso is primarily a left-back, so calling him up to rely on his services in the right wing could prove to be a counterproductive move.

And since Karsdorp has a questionable record when it comes to his behavior, Maehle would be, in our humble opinion, the pick of the bunch.

The Danish international is relatively young but has accumulated enough experience in Italian football and his versatility allows him to cover both Cuadrado and Alex Sandro.
