Liverpool star must take pay cut to remain at Anfield next term despite impressive start to campaign – report

Liverpool are keen for Bobby Firmino to stay at Anfield beyond the summer, but the Brazilian may have to settle for a pay cut.

The former Hoffenheim man has been in excellent form for Jurgen Klopp’s side this term and although he was shockingly left out of Brazil’s World Cup squad for Qatar, the Reds are keen to see the 31-year-old extend his stay at Merseyside on his current deal which expires at the end of the season.

According to a report by Football Insider (via Caught Offside), their No. 9 has been offered a new contract, but on a reduced package.

Firmino is currently collecting £180,000 a week on the FA Cup winners and if he’s not happy with the new terms that have been offered, he’s free to talk to teams from outside the Premier League if either party is interested in securing a pre-contract agreement for the versatile attacker.

Since arriving from the Bundesliga in 2015, the striker has become a huge favorite with Reds fans and has played an integral role in ensuring the Merseysiders have been competitive both domestically and in Europe.

He has won every major trophie possible at the club and the way in which he has mastered the false nine role in recent seasons is nothing short of remarkable.

Many expected the former Figueirense to see his playing time limited this season following the arrival of Darwin Núñez, but after Diogo Jota and Luis Díaz suffered serious injuries early in the campaign, he has shown that he remains a vitally important player.

In 19 Premier League and Champions League appearances this term, Bobby has scored nine times and recorded four assists.
