Andy Robertson on the Real Madrid star that is ‘getting on a bit’

Andy Robertson has had the displeasure of having to watch this year’s World Cup as a spectator and has shared an anecdote from his mid-season break, where he relied on an unlikely ally.

Speaking to the club’s website, the Scotland captain said: “When I went on holiday I ran into David Alaba and he’s in a similar boat, obviously, playing Austria. He said that he had been to a couple of Euros, but that he had never been to a World Cup. We were both talking about getting along a bit, so the chances of qualifying are running out.”

It’s certainly not a name many would have expected the 28-year-old to spend time with during the break from the action in Qatar, but it’s certainly an interesting insight into how it feels to miss out.

With our left-back looking to be 32 for that tournament as well, it’s a ray of hope, but something that will keep him working hard to impress on the international stage.
