16.5 million watched USA-Netherlands on US TV and streaming

A total of 16.5 million watched USA-Netherlands on FOX Sports and Telemundo combined in the World Cup knockout round on Saturday.

It wasn’t the result soccer fans in the United States wanted, but it certainly delivered in the TV ratings department for both FOX Sports and Telemundo.

US-Netherlands: Dive Into the Details

On the over-the-air FOX network and its streaming services combined, 12.966 million watched the game. Of that number, 596,850 watched the game on FOX Sports streaming services such as the FOX Sports app and Tubi.

Meanwhile, 3.58 million watched the game on Telemundo Deportes and its streaming services (Peacock and the Telemundo Deportes app).

The total of 16,546,000 was the second most watched US men’s team game of the 2022 World Cup:

Here are the top five TV markets for viewership in the US and the Netherlands, according to FOX Sports:

Meanwhile, Telemundo Deportes reports that through 48 matches in its first 13 days, the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 has an average Total Audience Delivery (TAD) of 2.07 million viewers on Telemundo’s broadcast platforms, Universo, Peacock and Telemundo, 5% more vs. the 2018 tournament (1.97 million), which was held in Russia in the summer. This year’s World Cup is the first to be held in the fall to offset Qatar’s extreme summer heat.

Overall, streaming has represented 28% of Telemundo’s total audience for the World Cup, an unprecedented figure. Telemundo has an average TAD of 2.07 million viewers in the first 48 games across all platforms, and streaming is responsible for 578,000 of those viewers on the Peacock and Telemundo streaming platforms (Average Viewers Per Minute), which it is 160% more than in 2018 (222,000).
