Ex-Red says Germany international would suit PL; LFC are ‘interested’

Glen Johnson has claimed that Jamal Musiala would start for England had he not switched his international loyalties to Germany and believes the Bayern Munich youngster would “really adapt to the Premier League”.

The 19-year-old showed glimpses of his impressive potential during the World Cup in Qatar despite Hansi Flick’s side failing to advance from the group stage.

The talented midfielder, who was recently told he could be the ‘Messi of the future’, represented the Three Lions up to U21 level before deciding to play senior for the four-time World Cup winners.

“Musiala was involved in most of Germany’s attacks before they were eliminated. It seems like he would really fit into the Premier League,” he said via TEAMTALK.

“I wish he was still English, but he’s probably the last person we need because of the talent we already have in his role.

“Musiala would break into the England squad, he would certainly go toe-to-toe with every other midfielder in the team. He would definitely say that he is good enough to start for England.”

Former Liverpool defender Johnson has also explained that he would like to see the versatile playmaker move to Liverpool if he were to return to England.

In October, Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg claimed the FA Cup holders are ‘interested’ in the teenager, but the reporter also claimed there are no transfer talks at the moment.

Musiala, who spent time at Southampton and Chelsea as a youth, has a contract at the Allianz Arena until 2026, meaning it would cost him a hefty fee to move soon.

“I would like to see Jamal Musiala in a Liverpool or Chelsea shirt, especially with the way he is playing at the moment. Most of the top teams would bite their arm off him,” he added.

The No. 42 Bayern has 12 goals and 10 assists in 22 appearances for his club this term (in all competitions) and those numbers alone explain why he is one of the most exciting prospects in Europe.

With Jurgen Klopp wanting to sign a new midfielder in January or at the end of the season, Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham is believed to be his main transfer target and it will be interesting to see what kind of deal is completed in the next two transfer windows.
