Jadon Sancho will not participate in Manchester United’s trip to Spain to face Cádiz and Real Betis.
The club announced the traveling squad this morning but the England player has not been included, much to the surprise of fans who are hoping it will be a chance to kick-start their faltering season.
The official site of the club indicates that “Jadon Sancho continues with his individual training program as part of a process to return to his highest level.
“The club is fully supporting him on this.”
The statement is curious in itself, as it raises the question of why the club finds it necessary to say they are supporting him. Perhaps there is an indication that the situation goes beyond a simple injury.
Sancho is not even listed as injured on sites like Premierinjuries.com.
In better news, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Brandon Williams are fit enough to join the camp, though Axel Tuanzebe isn’t available yet because he, too, works on a personal fitness program.
The full squad is: Goalkeepers: De Gea, Heaton, Bishop, Dubravka.
Defenders: Lindelof, Wan-Bissaka, Williams, Mengi, Bernard, Jurado, Hardley, Bennett, Oyedele, Murray, Fredricson.
Midfielders: Van de Beek, McTominay, Savage, Iqbal, Hansen, Gore, Mainoo.
Forwards: Martial, Elanga, Shoretire, Garnacho, Hugill, McNeill, Emeran.
The first of the two games against Cádiz takes place on Wednesday at 19:00 GMT.
The game with Real Betis continues at 17:00 GMT on Saturday, December 10.
