Trent didn’t know who teammate was when sharing room for England

Trent Alexander-Arnold has admitted he wasn’t sure who Aaron Ramsdale was after he was placed in a room with the Arsenal goalkeeper during his international service as a youth.

Scouser also revealed that he struggles to open up to people he’s never met before, but admitted it didn’t take long for the couple to hit it off “like a house on fire” after finding a unique bond in the Harry Potter movies.

“I remember going into my room once, opening the door and seeing a guy from Stoke right there,” the Liverpool winger said (as quoted by GOAL). A goalkeeper I don’t know. I’m thinking: ‘Who the hell did they put me in here with?’ Because I’m not good with new people. I’m not good with new people. I struggle to open up, so when I don’t know people, I don’t mean it, I just can’t open up, I can’t be myself with them…

“But as soon as we started talking we started laughing, blah blah blah, to be honest we hit it off like a house on fire. We always talk about things we used to do. We used to have Harry Potter marathons in the room. Just in all the camps throughout the camps, night after night we saw a new Harry Potter every night. That was our thing.”

Ramsdale have had to settle for a spot on the bench for the entire World Cup in Qatar so far as Jordan Pickford has been preferred between the sticks by Gareth Southgate.

Meanwhile, Alexander-Arnold has also been named as a substitute in all three group matches, but featured during the last 30 minutes of England’s 3-0 defeat of Wales.

Both players will have the opportunity to spend more time together tonight, having once again been on the bench for the Three Lions’ clash against Senegal in the round of 16.

We’re sure Scouser doesn’t mean to disrespect the former Sheffield United goalkeeper, but it’s quite amusing to hear him say he wasn’t quite sure who he was.

However, Ramsdale have been in fine form for Arsenal this season and is one of the main reasons the Gunners are currently five points clear at the top of the Premier League.

The 24-year-old has kept seven clean sheets in the league this term and it’s unfortunate not to be Southgate’s first choice.
