James Pearce has confirmed that Liverpool youngster Marcelo Pitaluga will be sidelined until January with an ankle ligament injury.
The Brazilian goalkeeper exceeded expectations while on loan at Macclesfield, although it now appears he will miss up to four matches depending on his exact return date.
“With Alisson in Qatar, Caoimhin Kelleher will be the main goalkeeper with Adrian and academy graduate Harvey Davies as backups,” the reporter wrote for The Athletic. “Marcelo Pitaluga will also be on the trip while he undergoes treatment. The young Brazilian goalkeeper’s impressive loan spell at non-League Macclesfield was cut short by an ankle ligament injury that will keep him sidelined until January.
Within the first team, meanwhile, there is good news for Luis Diaz, Naby Keita and Joel Matip ahead of the Reds’ impending hot-weather training camp in Dubai.

There is a lot of excitement about the potential the 19-year-old goalkeeper offers and hopefully he can be the man to step up if our fears of a potential Caoimhin Kelleher departure come true.
We could hardly envy the Irishman for seeking more minutes elsewhere given his clear quality, of course, although it would be a shame to lose such a competent second choice to Alisson Becker.
Let’s cross our fingers that Pitaluga’s recovery doesn’t encounter unexpected obstacles and we can get him out on the field to continue his upward trajectory.
