Gary Lineker has once again called for England and Liverpool to push Trent Alexander-Arnold into the middle of the park.
The fullback has come under fire of late for his perceived shortcomings on the backline and has consequently suffered a lack of minutes for the national team at the World Cup.
“I think Trent is a player who should be playing midfield, I always have,” Lineker told BBC One’s World Cup Extra.
“By accident he landed on the right-back, who plays brilliantly and is the best center you’ll ever see, but he’s the best passer in English football.
“He could be playing anywhere in midfield, he could be playing anywhere. The only weakness he has is that he occasionally gets caught defensively.”
Legendary Brazilian right-back Cafu is likely to disagree with his claim that the 24-year-old is coming under similar criticism of himself and Roberto Carlos in their playing days.

We wouldn’t be opposed to our number 66 moving higher up the pitch, as long as Jurgen Klopp felt it was the best move for player development.
Ultimately, with all due respect to Lineker, only the German tactician is well placed to make judgment in that area and we expect Alexander-Arnold to stay put.
We agree that he has not reached his peak this term (along with other Liverpool stars), but we have no serious, long-term concerns about his progress at the club.
