Liverpool’s absent World Cup stars will find it ‘difficult to watch’

Liverpool have some of the best players in world football in their squad, but due to a variety of reasons some of these men have missed out on the World Cup and one ex-Red has discussed how they will feel.

Having missed the 2010 tournament with Brazil through injury, Fabio Aurelio spoke to the club’s website about how it felt to be absent from the competition and the feelings current players will also have:

I know how Liverpool players who are not in Qatar will feel, like Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Roberto Firmino, Andy Robertson and more. Competitors that they are, I imagine they would have found it difficult to see.

‘You play for such a big club and then you don’t take part in the most important football competition in the world. It’s frustrating to say the least. But you have to deal with that frustration, you have to use it as something to make you stronger.’

Clearly the 43-year-old is still very upset that he was not given the chance to shine on the highest international stage and he will understand the emotions felt by those sitting at home watching events unfold.

However, as the group stages come to a close, it will start to get easier for them and once the Dubai training camp starts, they won’t even feel like they are missing anything.

Those who miss out with injuries, rather than their nations failing to qualify for the trip to Qatar, will feel more aggrieved, but now they have the perfect opportunity to go and show everyone what they could have done internationally but do it with A red t-shirt.

It is not known what long-term effects the tournament will have on performance at the national level, but those who have stayed at home are expected to shine, given the long rest they have been given.

After a couple of friendlies against Lyon and AC Milan, he comes back down to earth with a Carabao Cup clash against Manchester City in December and Jurgen Klopp will want as many players as possible available for the match.
