What happens to Allegri and Cherubini following the board’s resignation?

Following last night’s shocking announcement, it seems our world has been turned upside down.

Andrea Agnelli’s 12-year era came to an abrupt end when the Juventus president announced his resignation along with the nine other members of the board of directors, leaving the club in a state of chaos.

While Monday’s statement also included the appointment of Maurizio Scanavino as the new CEO, this morning the company that owns the club, Exor, announced Gianluca Ferrero as the new president.

But the question remains: who runs the club from a sporting perspective?

According to Calciomercato journalist Nicola Balice, Juventus sporting director Federico Cherubini will remain in his post.

The 51-year-old has been working at Juventus for more than a decade. He was promoted to become the head of the sports department after the departure of his predecessor Fabio Paratici in 2021.

Cherubini is not a member of the board, so he did not resign along with Pavel Nedved and Maurizio Arrivabene (who will remain as the club’s CEO until a new board is appointed).

Balice believes that Cherubini has the confidence of club owner John Elkann, and the same goes for Massimiliano Allegri.

The source adds that the Juventus manager shares a strong relationship with the resigned president Agnelli, which made him contemplate resigning.

Nonetheless, Balice hopes the sporting department remains intact, with Cherubini and Allegri keeping their posts in hopes of shielding the team from the administrative storm.
