Exclusive: Chelsea transfer target won’t sign new contract, “good chances” he’ll leave current club

Chelsea fans will be intrigued to hear the latest transfer update on West Ham midfielder Declan Rice in today’s edition of Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing on CaughtOffside.

The Blues have both N’Golo Kante and Jorginho coming to the end of their contracts, so a new midfield signing could make sense as a priority for them next summer.

Chelsea have long been closely associated with Rice, with Simon Phillips recently reporting that they are currently leading the race to sign the England international.

Romano has now made it clear that Rice is not prepared to sign a new contract with West Ham, making a summer exit in 2023 increasingly likely.

Will Declan Rice leave West Ham for Chelsea?

“I reported last summer that Declan Rice was not going to sign a new deal with West Ham and this continues to be the case; there’s no deal, so there’s a good chance Declan will leave in the summer,” Romano said.

“I’m not sure of the price yet as West Ham haven’t decided and they still feel strong about the price and have the option to extend the contract for another year.”

Chelsea fans would surely love to see Rice back at Stamford Bridge after he failed to make it to the club when he was at their academy as a youngster.

It’s fair to say that the 23-year-old has gone from strength to strength ever since, becoming a very important player for West Ham, and now for England as well.
