OFFICIAL: Agnelli, Nedved and the rest of Juventus board resign in shocking twist

For us Juventus fans expecting a quiet Monday night, this was certainly the last thing we expected.

In a shocking twist, Juventus president Andrea Agnelli has decided to step down from his position along with all members of the club’s board of directors.

This includes vice president Pavel Nedved and chief executive Maurizio Arrivabene, although the latter will temporarily remain in his office as manager until a new board is appointed.

This amazing news came after a meeting on Monday. The club’s official website confirmed the news in a statement tonight.

The Bianconeri have come under scrutiny by investigators for alleged financial irregularities, including illegal capital gains and salaries paid to players during the Covid-19 pandemic that were reportedly hidden from published balance sheets.

Therefore, Agnelli and the other directors under investigation have decided that leaving their positions vacant would be in the best interest of the club.

After this impressive event, there is a lot of speculation circulating at the moment, so we can only expect some confirmed updates on the future of the club in the next few hours.

Here is a part of the official statement issued by the club.

“In addition, the members of the Board of Directors, considering the centrality and relevance of pending legal and technical-accounting issues, have considered it in the best social interest to recommend that Juventus adopt a new Board of Directors to address these issues.

“To this end, at the proposal of President Andrea Agnelli and in order to allow the decision on the renewal of the Board of Directors to be sent to the Shareholders’ Meeting as soon as possible, all the members of the Board of Directors present at the meeting declared that they resigned their position.

“For the same reasons, each of the three directors holding powers (Chairman Andrea Agnelli, Vice-Chairman Pavel Nedved and CEO Maurizio Arrivabene) considered it appropriate to transfer the powers conferred to the Board of Directors. However, the Board of Directors has requested Maurizio Arrivabene to maintain the position of CEO”.
