Manchester United are unlikely to be in the race to sign AC Milan striker Rafael Leao, according to Florian Plettenberg.
The Sky Sports Germany journalist previously tweeted the following:

Few could argue with that assessment of United’s ample options, at least on the left flank.
Erik ten Hag currently has Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and youngster Alejandro Garnacho to fill that position. In fact, it appears to be the only area of Manchester United’s attack that has sufficient coverage.
The Red Devils can count on Anthony Martial as the only recognized striker in their team at the moment, while summer signing Antony is the only left-footed attacker in the first team.
Since Ten Hag prefers to use reverse wingers, a player on the right side is likely to take precedence over one on the left. The striker’s situation is by far the worst.
As The Peoples Person reported earlier in the month, United had been linked with Rafael Leao, but the fee he would have charged would have made a winter transfer highly unlikely.
With the team needing to prioritize positions elsewhere, it appears Leao won’t be a summer target either.
The 23-year-old is certainly a fantastic player and has shone for Milan this season, racking up 6 goals and 4 assists in 14 Serie A appearances.
But it could be the case of the right player at the wrong time, with the fee he would charge far dwarfing United’s need for him.
If Ten Hag decides he wants someone to bolster his options on the left, a move for Cody Gakpo seems much more likely, given his comparatively low price and registered interest from the club.
