Newcastle interested in signing 27-year-old combative midfielder

According to GiveMeSport journalist Robin Bairner, Newcastle United could aim to recruit RC Lens midfielder Seko Fofana if the Ligue 1 side cannot reach the Champions League.

Along with the Magpies, Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal have shown interest in acquiring the Ivory Coast international, according to French media outlet L’Equipe.

“If Lens makes it to the Champions League this year, for example, you could see a player like Seko Fofana stay there, just because of this link they have,” Bairner said.

“If they don’t break into the top three, again, possibly next summer, this could be a move that happens.

“Fofana is a player who has all the attributes to play in England, and surely Newcastle would be interested.

“But I would imagine he is a player most England teams would be interested in, given what he has produced. But then again, it’s about whether Lens can keep up with his ambitions.”

Howe is interested in pairing Fofana with Bruno Guimaraes in midfield for next season, especially if the Tyneside club manage to qualify for Europe.
