Gary Neville voices concern about “sluggish” England star after USA performance

Gary Neville has raised concerns about the “slowness” of England and West Ham midfielder Declan Rice after his display against the United States.

England drew 0-0 against the United States on Friday night in a game packed with little action. The USA probably deserved more of the game than England, but neither team managed to create many chances.

Except for defense, no England player came out of the game with any real credit. With the midfield struggling to control the game and the attack barely creating chances between them.

Speaking on ITV, as broadcast by the West Ham Zone, Neville expressed his disappointment in Rice’s performance in particular.

“I thought Declan, who is amazing and dynamic and athletic, looked slow. I hope that’s something he felt a bit bad about,” Neville said.

Rice is the type of player where if he has a bad game, the whole team tends to struggle. The West Ham man is at the heart of England’s midfield, dictating the pace of play and picking the ball away from defenders.

Hopefully Rice was just having a bad day and returns to his usual self against Wales where England can secure their place in the next round of the World Cup.
