Neville on whether LFC or Man Utd are a more attractive for new owners

Gary Neville has discussed which club is the more attractive proposition out of Liverpool and Manchester United with both clubs currently up for sale.

The two American-owned giants of the Premier League are the most successful clubs in the country and have some of the biggest soccer fan bases in the world.

The former Red Devil believes that although Jurgen Klopp’s side are in a better position on and off the pitch at the moment, “there is no denying the scale” of the Old Trafford outfit.

“I don’t want to disrespect Liverpool, not at all, because they are a great football club,” the 47-year-old told Sky Sports (via HITC). “You look at the heyday of English football, when it comes to spectator figures, fans and commercial revenue, Manchester United and Liverpool are at the top.

“Forget Manchester City generating higher revenue naturally than it would through traditional media, Manchester United and Liverpool are the two biggest clubs in the country, by a mile.

“But Manchester United will be more sought after and command a higher price than Liverpool, just because of their power. Unless Liverpool have something figured out, they will probably have to wait a bit because the buyers are going to Manchester United, unless they are Liverpool fans.

“They (Liverpool) are in a better position, on and off the pitch, 100%. We have said it for the last four or five years. But it is not arrogance, the scale of Manchester United cannot be denied. You just can’t.

Given that Neville was a United fan from childhood and spent the entirety of his career at the club, there may be a hint of bias in his comments.

Liverpool have won every major trophy available since 2019, while Erik Ten Hag’s side have not won a trophy since 2017.

FSG issued a statement just under three weeks ago that seemed to suggest they are willing to part ways with the club, while United’s owners, the Glazer family, have also recently put the club on the market.

Reports suggest that John Henry and company held talks with two Middle East-based consortiums recently with the club valued in the region of £3bn.

The idea of a fresh start with new ownership may be exciting, but the risk of being led by a group with a questionable human rights record also raises uncertainty for many Reds fans.

Our American owners may have divided opinion since they bought the club over a decade ago, but they have ensured that the club has developed both on and off the pitch under their guidance.
