Fabrizio Romano on Phil Foden playing for England

Manchester City star Phil Foden deserves to play more for England as he is such a talent, according to Fabrizio Romano, in his exclusive Daily Briefing column CaughtOffside.

Foden has been strangely overlooked by England manager Gareth Southgate at this World Cup thus far, with many fans surprised he wasn’t introduced from the bench in Friday’s tough 0-0 draw with the USA. .us

Despite being one of the most exciting talents in the Premier League and a star of Pep Guardiola’s impressive Manchester City side, Foden apparently remains behind Mason Mount in the England pecking order.

It’s hard to understand, though Romano also admitted that as parlor pundits we must be careful not to think we have all the answers to England’s problems.

Phil Foden in England training

Southgate have done a great job in their time in charge of the Three Lions, and England remain in a strong position in their group, even if the performance against the USA left a lot to be desired.

“I can understand the frustrations with the way England played against the USA, but I think it’s very easy to judge from our own sofa,” Romano said.

“Being England manager with so many top players to choose from is different. Of course I hope to see Phil Foden on the field soon as he is a great player and he deserves to play more, but we must not forget the other great players on this team.”
