Over 40 Man United fans sentenced for their roles in last year’s Old Trafford protest – Man United News And Transfer News

More than 40 people have been sentenced for their illegal participation in an anti-Glazer protest at Old Trafford last year.

A huge protest against the club’s owners took place on 2 May, with fans demonstrating at Old Trafford and even the Lowry Hotel.

The protest caused United’s crucial draw against Liverpool on the day to be postponed to a later date. The protest came after the club’s attempted participation in the failed European Super League.

Despite a heavy police presence, a section of fans stormed Old Trafford and some rioted.

The Messenger reports: “Dozens of police officers, butlers and other workers were attacked, throwing barriers, bottles and flares. The damage caused was worth tens of thousands of pounds, most of it to television cameras owned by a private company.

“The match was postponed and an investigation was launched, with hundreds of hours of CCTV reviewed to see who was involved.”

“More than 40 people have been convicted, almost all of them this month, for crimes including assault, robbery and criminal damage.”

The ages of those convicted range from adolescence to 52 years.

GMP Assistant Police Chief Wasim Chaudhry condemned the disorderly and disruptive behavior displayed by some people.

Chaudhry especially criticized the attack on police officers and emergency response workers who risk their lives every day for the good of society.

Since the Old Trafford protest, United fans have come together on a number of occasions to express their dissatisfaction with the Glazer family.

The Old Trafford faithful regularly sing anti-Glazer chants, and others even boycott the games. Hopefully, the recent news about the Glazers’ interest in relinquishing control comes to fruition and United can finally get back on the road to success.
