Ex-Red warns Cody Gakpo off Liverpool and suggests PL rivals

Liverpool have been linked with plenty of players who are currently flexing their muscles at the World Cup, but in Cody Gakpo, a former Red suggested he shouldn’t make a move to join our side.

Speaking to CaughtOffside, Stan Collymore was asked where he thinks the player should transfer to: “I wouldn’t say Liverpool on the basis that Luis Diaz and Fabio Carvalho come from the left, which is where Cody Gakpo often appears.

“In addition, Liverpool also has Darwin Núñez, who operates through the center. I really like him, but I could see him fit better at Man United or Arsenal.”

After scoring again for the Netherlands in the draw with Ecuador, the PSV man is attracting even more attention with his high-caliber performances on the biggest stage of them all.

Links with the Dutchman were certainly stronger in the summer as we searched for a replacement for Sadio Mane, so now that we have Darwin Nunez secured, there may be no need to sign him.

Given that our focus is apparently on bolstering our midfield over the next few windows, then it may seem unlikely that we’ll break the bank again with another breakthrough option.

While it may not be in terms of quality of teammates and style that matches our game, the claim from our previous sing-along record that the 23-year-old might “be a better fit” elsewhere, may well be true.

Whether it’s after this January or the summer, it seems unlikely we’ll see the Dutch international play in the red shirt at Anfield.
