Academy Match report: Manchester City u18s 2-3 Manchester United u18s – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United’s Under-18s traveled across the city to take on local rivals Manchester City on Saturday morning.

It was City who first threatened with a ball across the area for Farid Alfa-Ruprecht at the back post to shoot wide into the side net.

United responded with a Sam Murray free kick that forced a save that could only be deflected into a dangerous area for Tyler Fredricson to put into the back of the net, but was ruled out for offside.

It was a back-and-forth encounter and City reached the baseline to cut off Jaden Heskey, who came off the post with his side foot and went out.

Maxi Oyedele threaded the needle for Manni Norkett through, but the striker’s failed attempt went wide of goal.

City would go on to take the lead in the 34th minute through their captain Nico O’Reilly, who opened up space on the edge of the box and struck into the bottom left corner bouncing just under Elyh Harrison’s grip.

United had a chance to equalize before half-time when Murray’s cross fell off the back post by Ethan Williams, but the winger was unable to keep his shot from close range on target.

In the second half, Williams had a chance to level the game again when he stole the ball from the City defender and would not make a mistake twice by clinically placing the ball in the bottom left corner.

Just five minutes later, United would take the lead through Norkett, who headed in from a Fredricson cross.

A Manchester derby is never contested without controversy and it was late when Jack Kingdon shockingly saw a straight red card for a challenge from behind high up the pitch.

Despite losing a man, United struck on the counter-attack, causing the City goalkeeper to bring out Víctor Musa to earn a penalty. James Nolan stepped forward and duly dispatched the penalty into the bottom right corner.

City would win one back late in injury time from Matthew Whittingham, but it was too late as United would go on to emerge victorious 2-3 in the Manchester Derby.

United: Harrison, Kingdon, Aljofree, Jackson, Murray, Fredricson, Oyedele, Nolan, Gore (Berry 58), Williams, Norkett (Musa 89)
