Juventus beat Verona yesterday in Serie A, but there was controversy over the result.
The Bianconeri have been struggling for much of this season and Verona is always a tough nut to crack for Max Allegri’s men.
Juve were heading into that game in fine form after winning four league games in a row, so they had something to protect.
However, they knew that Verona would not make life easy for them in the match and they worked hard to win.
Juve won 1-0, but there were two instances in the game where VAR played a pivotal role in helping Juve secure victory.
First, he didn’t recommend a field review when Danilo appeared to be handling the ball.
Second, he disallowed a penalty that had been awarded to Verona. These decisions helped Juve and Verona is frustrated by them.
However, refereeing expert and former official, Tiziano Pieri, explained the decisions on RAI Sport via Football Italia:
“A still image suggests DanielThe arm is raised and it’s a penalty,” he said.
“However, we need to see the dynamics of the entire incident. The rules state that if a player is already falling and his arm is outstretched to protect himself from falling, he is not penalized.
“In this situation Dawidowicz hits the ball very hard and there is no time to react. The VAR officials, Guida and Nasca, decided that this move was consistent and that his arm was ready to break his fall rather than move towards the ball”.

VAR decisions are never consistent and we’ve also been on the receiving end of some of them recently.
Verona will feel like they should have gotten something from the game, but we’re happy to have secured another hard-fought win.
