Chelsea and England right-back Reece James has admitted he is devastated to miss out on the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup.

James’ hopes of playing in the 2022 World Cup were thrown into doubt when he suffered a knee injury during Chelsea’s 2-0 win over AC Milan at the San Siro in a Champions League match in October. .

Since then, the Chelsea defender has been out of action. But James was hopeful of getting his fitness back from him and making the England squad for the 2022 World Cup.

However, reports emerged today that England manager Gareth Southgate has already told James he would not make the Three Lions World Cup squad.

James has now confirmed that he will miss the 2022 World Cup. He took to Twitter to post a message, admitting that he is devastated that he will go to the World Cup.

“Devastated,” James wrote on Twitter. “At the moment I injured my knee, I knew that the return to the World Cup would be difficult, but I always felt that it was possible. I’ve worked harder than I ever thought I could to give myself the best chance to go and I really believed I could help the team.

“I appreciate that there was a risk on both sides, but I was willing to take it. Good luck guys. I will be back soon. Stay safe and send love.“

Another Chelsea player, Ben Chilwell, has also been ruled out of the World Cup. Chilwell was stopped with a hamstring problem during the Blues’ 2–1 victory over Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League.

Scan results revealed that Chilwell sustained a significant injury. Chilwell then took to Twitter to react to his shattered World Cup dreams, admitting it had always been his dream to play in FIFA’s flagship event.

Meanwhile, Manchester City duo Kyle Walker and Kalvin Phillips, who are currently recovering from injury, could be named in England’s World Cup squad.

Phillips has spent most of the 22/23 season sidelined with injury. He is currently recovering after undergoing surgery to fix a recurring problem with his shoulder.

Walker, meanwhile, is recovering from groin surgery. Both players face a race against time to be fit in time for the World Cup. The tournament, meanwhile, begins on November 20.
