Juventus Plotting a Move for Raphael Guerreiro

Serie A giants Juventus are interested in signing Portuguese international Raphael Guerreiro from Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund.

After spending time in the youth academy at Blanc-Mesnil and Clairefontaine, Guerreiro joined French Caen’s youth team.

He then graduated from the Caen academy and was promoted to the senior team. The fullback played one season for the French outfit before joining Ligue 1 side Lorient on a four-year deal.

The left-back spent three seasons at Lorient before joining Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund in 2016. Guerreiro has already represented Portugal in international football. The winger was part of the Portuguese team that won the UEFA European Championship. He also won the inaugural UEFA Nations League.

Now, according to a report from Mundo Deportivo, Italian giants Juventus are looking to sign Portuguese international Raphael Guerreiro from Borussia Dortmund.

After dominating Serie A for more than a decade, Juventus is currently going through a transition phase. They have failed to finish in the top three in their last two terms. And even this time, they haven’t had an ideal start.

The Bianconeri have managed to win seven of their first twelve matches. With twenty-five points from thirteen games, they are currently fifth in the table. Juventus’ performance on the European stage has been even poor.

For the first time in their history, Juventus lost five of their six UEFA Champions League group stage games. This also includes a humiliating loss against Maccabi Haifa. As a result, Juventus was eliminated from the UCL and will participate in the Europa League.

Now the Juventus management understands his situation very well. They want to reinforce many positions in the next transfer windows. One of them is the left side.

Current Juventus left-back Alex Sandro is in the final year of his contract. The Brazilian is past his prime and will probably leave after this season. Hence, the Bianconeri need a new player in that position.

Raphael Guerreiro, 28, entered the final year of his contract. There is no clear indication yet whether he will extend his stay at Dortmund. Therefore, this presents itself as a great opportunity for the Bianconeri.

Guerreiro remains one of the best attacking full-backs in the world. Signing him will surely give Juventus some much-needed quality at left back.
