Sir Jim Ratcliffe Clears His Stance on Potential Liverpool Takeover

Britain’s richest man, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, has turned down the chance to become the new owner of 19-time English champions Liverpool FC.

It was previously revealed last Monday that Liverpool’s current owners, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), are willing to sell the club if the right offer comes through.

The American sports company FSG bought Liverpool in 2010 for a price of 300 million pounds sterling. In the years that followed, the FSG remade the rojillos and brought them back to their former glory. Under the new management, Liverpool won the English Premier League and UEFA Champions League titles.

Overall, the Reds have been one of the best clubs in the world for much of the last decade. But now, after 13 years, the FSG has decided to sell the club.

Forbes currently values the Reds at £3.5bn. And the FSG is reportedly seeking at least £4bn to sell the club.

Since the amount is so large, only a few in the world can even think of bidding on the club. One of them is Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Britain’s richest man, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, is worth over £10 billion. This makes him one of those few people who have the opportunity to buy the club. Ratcliffe is also an avid football fan and owner of the French Ligue 1 club Nice.

INEOS CEO Ratcliffe made an early attempt to buy Chelsea from its former owner, Roman Abramovich. However, his effort failed and Todd Boehly later bought the club from the Russian.

Ratcliffe is also a huge Manchester United fan and expressed his desire to take charge of the Red Devils last summer. However, an agreement was never reached. And now, the 70-year-old has ruled out any potential investment in United’s arch-rivals Liverpool.

In a recent interview with the Daily Telegraph, Ratcliffe said: “Our position has developed since the summer and we are now focusing our efforts on Nice and raising our ambitions for the club to become a top-tier club in France to compete with. PSG”.

“This would represent much better value for our investment than buying one of the top-tier Premier League clubs,” he concluded.

With Ratcliffe’s recent words he has made it clear that the British businessman will not enter the ownership of any Premier League club in the recent future.
