Last Sunday, Juventus earned their most valuable win of the campaign so far when they prevailed over arch-rivals Inter with two unanswered goals.
However, it wouldn’t be a Derby d’Italia without at least one controversial incident. So while it was a relatively peaceful affair, Danilo’s disallowed goal is still causing debate among fans and observers alike.
After Adrien Rabiot’s first goal, the Brazilian thought he had doubled the Old Lady’s lead when he latched on to a Filip Kostic corner kick and finished on goal.
But after a lengthy VAR review, the goal was ruled out as slow replays showed the ball had touched Danilo’s hand on its way into the net.
However, Tuttosport (via JuventusNews24) suggests that the referee should have awarded a penalty kick in favor of Juventus, as Inter defender Stefan de Vrij was holding Danilo’s arm.
So while the newspaper admits it would have been a soft penalty, it considers it a fair decision as the Brazilian only committed the handball due to a tackle from his opponent.
The report also criticizes match official Daniele Doveri for canceling the call without checking the replay himself, instead allowing those in the VAR room to make the final decision for him.
Fortunately, Juventus still managed to score a second goal and come away with a win, otherwise this incident would have caused further outrage.
