Manchester United were among several clubs interested in Newcastle winger Miguel Almiron before he signed for his current employers.
The other interested parties pursuing Almiron included Arsenal and Southampton.
This is according to the player’s agent, Daniel Campos.
Campos told ABC Cardinal through The Mirror: “Miguel Almiron is a footballer who went from less to more, now he is a more complete footballer.”
“There was interest from Manchester United in Miguel but they never made an offer.”
“Arsenal and Southampton offered loan deals for him but we didn’t want it to be a loan.”
Almiron had a rocky start at St James Park but is now in the best form of his career since coming to England from MLS.
In the 13 games that the Paraguayan has played with the Urracas, he has contributed an impressive seven goals.
Almiron’s exploits during the month of October have earned him a Premier League Player of the Month nomination. along with other great hitters in the league such as Erling Haaland, Kevin de Bruyne and his teammate Kieran Trippier.
The Red Devils may yet have another shot at Almiron’s signing if this is something they want to do.
The 28-year-old will see his contract with Newcastle expire in the summer of 2024 and, according to Eddie Howe, there are currently no negotiations to grant the striker an extension.
However, Howe did not rule out the possibility of these talks starting at a later date when the match schedule is less busy.
